MENS 50 PLUS TENNIS LEAGUE OF LEE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS MESSAGE
HANK MORGAN
OCTOBER 2008
The Men’s 50 Plus Tennis League
of Lee County has expanded dramatically this summer. We now have
a record of 75 teams divided into 11 flights. Simply stated, we
will have about 600 of Lee County’s senior citizens playing
competitive doubles tennis each week during our regular season.
This season, I
will continue to serve as your Commissioner, Manager of the Blue
Division and Co-Captain the Pelican Landing White C Team. Vice
Commissioner Bob Dalton will continue to serve as Manager of the
Red Division and Captain the Landings Red C Team. Vice
Commissioner Jim Hebert will continue to serve as Manager of the
White Division. As questions arise, please contact your Division
Manager by email or telephone (See Contacts section this site).
At the Captains
Luncheon last spring, we reviewed our match pointing system where
all courts, one through four, count the same. Each court is
assigned one point for a win and no points for a loss. This system
works without “sand-bagging” due to the high level of integrity
continually displayed by our Captains. We play in order of court
strength. Our dress code asks each visiting team to abide the
dress requirements of the host tennis club. We will continue to
play 2 out of 3 full sets; there will be no super tie-breaker in
lieu of a 3rd set. We use the Coman tie-breaker and do
not allow USTA 4.0 and above players to play in the White or Blue
Divisions. These players should play in their clubs Red
Division. Teams are exempt from this rule if their club does not
have a Red Division Team.
Please note that
each individual flight schedule appears on a single page and each
match is separated from other matches by a double line. The
shaded area team is the home team. This should result in 11
schedules that will be easier to read.
Each year when the
League has surplus funding, we donate to a charitable organization
associated with tennis. This fall, the League will make a
donation to the Lee County Community Tennis Association (LCCTA).
The LCCTA provides tennis programs to at-risk children and
handicapped citizens at no cost.
I wish to thank
Bob Dalton and Jim Hebert for their untiring support. Their
efforts, as Division Managers, ensure the smooth and efficient
operation of our League. This year, we called upon a number of
our Captains to review the schedules. Their review and
suggestions were greatly appreciated and for the most part
incorporated into our website structure.
I wish you all
good health and a competitive tennis season.
